Fiddle Iii 200i Review

Fiddle Iii 200i Review

  1. I don't see much mention of them, but is anyone riding a riding a SYM Fiddle lll 200i? What is your experience and how are you liking it?

I have been looking at scooters in the 150-200 size, for mostly city riding. The Fiddle lll seems like a pretty good deal, good price and it includes a top case. I have tried the Fiddle lll, Piaggio Liberty 150 and Yamaha SMax. I have not tried the Kymco Like 150i yet. I was not impressed with the Liberty 150 as much as I thought I would be, it seemed to be a really rough ride on the rough streets. I like the ride and handling of the SMax, but the stepped seat made the cockpit feel to tight. The Fiddle lll seemed to be a ride pretty well, roomy comfortable seat and a lot of bang for the buck.

    Thanks!

  3. I've sat on the Fiddle III and was considering it when I decided to upgrade from a Fiddle II last year. Then I saw the Like 150 and decision was made. The Fiddle III is an attractive scoot, but stylistically a little dated still to me (like the dash) - not much difference from the Fiddle II. It does come with a top box, which is a plus. There was just something in the Like's styling that swung my vote, plus its got a gobful of features and is equally as comfortable (ergonimically both were good for me). Probably would come down to dealer proximity and/or deal to be had. I've been happy with the Like 150.

I don't mind the look or the dash at all. Unfortunately it is just not fast enough. It says 65 mph. My former SYM HD200 (with about the same displacement as the Fiddle III) was 5-7 mph faster. It was just barely fast enough for the right lane on the freeway. Something just a little bit slower wouldn't be. I should never have sold the HD200.
  5. I am going to take a look at and test ride the Kymco Like 150i. I like the looks of both the Fiddle lll and Like 150i. I also had another ride on the Piaggio Liberty 150 and was more impressed with it this time, than my first demo ride on it. I have seen comments on the SYM HD200 being liquid cooled and that was responsible for the increased performance over these air cooled scooters. It seems the SYM Fiddle lll is competitive performance and price wise with these 150cc scooters. The Yamaha SMax is liquid cooled, but I could not tell from my limited demo ride and experience if it was any faster than the Fiddle lll or Liberty 150. Thanks for your comments!

The HD is liquid cooled (first thing to do when you get one is dump the OEM and put in something else, preferably with a flush in between).
As Jerry noted it's a step quicker than most in it's class, & overall a nifty bike; albeit not as bulletproof as my Kymco S was.
I have a couple of 'em and rider regularly. Contemplating a 300ish mile run on one this weekend.
  7. Liquid cooling usually allows a higher compression ratio, facilitating a performance boost.
-the HD200 also came with a 4 valve head. More RPM for more speed.
-im gonna start looking for a used one.
-the last HD200 production year was 2016. I dont know if they were sold in the States that year.

Bumping this thread. Anyone have experience with theses on this thread? We've looked at the Kymco Like 150i, Royal Alloy GT 150, Genuine Buddy Kick 125, Genuine Buddy 170i, and Vespa Primavera. The SYM is becoming the front runner. Has anyone on this board pulled the trigger on one yet?
  9. In 2018 I was in market for a less expensive 150ish scooter and had it on my short list to check out. Stopped by a dealer, and saw the new Like 150 next to it. Bought the Like simply on aesthetics, which is personal preference. Performance wise they are neck and neck. Kymco has a newer more efficient engine, which is on par with the Sym 170cc motor performance wise. Both brands are well known for reliability. Having said that, a month ago daughter/son in law were in market for similar rides. They loved the Sym and bought two. I'm a big fan - it rides great and is very comfy. Would not have regretted getting one. I think its engine sound is a little more refined, if that matters to you. I find the exhaust noise on the Like to be louder than I expected. Its certainly not whisper quiet like a Vespa. Anyway, I find the Sym and Kymco to be equally compelling. Go with what moves you more - value, looks, performance, features, dealership, whatever.

I agree with "gitder". I currently own a 2018 Kymco Like 150 but purchased a wrecked 2016 Lance Cali Classic which I rebuilt for my father in law. The Lance has the same engine as the Sym Fiddle III, both scooters run comparable top end speeds (60-62 mph GPS) but I felt the Lance felt like it had more torque and pulled off the line a bit better. I've had a few problems with my Kymco which were all repaired under warranty but zero issues with the Lance so far.
  11. What did you think of the Royal Alloy? Not much info out there on it but seems like a nicely styled scoot.

I didn't take it for a spin, but based on cosmetics alone, I loved it. My wife thought they were beautiful, but there is no way she would be comfortable riding it solo.

The dealer we checked it out at was a small vintage scooter/moped shop, that also sells new SYM/Lance and Royal Alloy. The owner of the shop was showing me his personal Royal Alloy. The dash was small, but well laid out and easy to read. He said it holds 60mph sustained, and has taken it on 100 mile rides to the coast and back. They are tall though, it is definitely the tallest scooter I've ever sat on. It was parked next to a 1963 Lambretta in the showroom, and you could definitely see the resemblance.

If you can deal with the height, and questionable origin story, they seem like a solid choice.
